S. Hiking

Trails will be provided for access to the reservoir shoreline from
day use and overnight use facilities and for access between these
facilities with a major complex. Shoreline trails will not be provided
because the fluctuation of the reservoir would leave such trails
in inconvenient locations most of the time.

6. Sightseeing and Scenic Driving

Few opportunities exist to provide sightseeing points of interest
due to the topographic configuration of the reservoir. Scenic overlooks,
parking, and turnouts are provided along access roads and within
the major recreation complexes. A major scenic overlook of the main
body of the reservoir has been developed at the McPhee Recreation
Complex.

A scenic driving route is established on existing forest access roads
that have been upgraded by the Dolores Project. These roads also
provide access to the reservoir from the east side. The House Creek
Road provides an excellent scenic driving route.

7. Bicycling

Bicycle use is likely to take place on reservoir access routes and
within major-use areas. The west side should receive the majority
of this type of use because of its proximity to the town of Dolores
and nearby subdivisions. Bicycle lanes or paths are not planned.

8. Hunting

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is responsible for the enforcement
of state hunting laws and regulations. Hunting and the discharge
of firearms is not permitted within developed recreation sites and
will be so posted on bulletin boards. Facilities for hunters have
not been provided; however, hunters may use parking lots and turnouts
along access roads and House Creek Recreation Area will be kept open
through big game seasons. Hunter camps outside of developed sites
are not permitted within the Management Area.

9. Visitor Information

At a future date, the Forest Service will develop a Visitor Information
program for McPhee Reservoir. A preliminary draft of this program
has been completed which outlines information and interpretive goals
and opportunities.

Some of these are as follows:

a. Provide the recreation visitor with orientation and
information as to the recreation and interpretive
opportunities offered at McPhee Reservoir and in the
immediate area.

15
