. .

known sources of data are identified. The data I'/ill be reviewed
in order to determine its completeness, accuracy, and applica-
bility for use in the proposed study. The need for additional
data will be assessed and any additional data required will be
collected or generated.

PHASE II: IllVENTORY OF RESOURCES AND NEEDS
The major tasks during this phase of the study "rill include
an inventory and evaluation of existing and potential facilities
and the compilation of hyd~ologic, water use, water rights, and
economic data into a form 6uitable for input into the MODSIM
program.
There are more than 60 existing water storage facilities
in the Cache la Poudre Basin as well as numerous diversion and
carriage facilities. These will be identified, and minor ones
will be evaluated in order to determine if some can be aggregated
and treated as a single feature in the analyses. The major fac-
ilities will be analyzed to determine their potential for improved
yield by increasing the efficiency of their operation or increas-
ing the efficiency of water use. Possibilities of enlarging the
capacity of existing facilities, such as Horsetooth Reservoir,
will be investigated, and possibilities of sediment removal to
increase reservoir yield will be considered. Present and modi-
fied characteristics of the facilities will be determined as
necessary for input into the MODSIM model.
Over the years, many alternative facilities for the develop-
ment of the water resources of the Cache la poudre Basin have
been identified and studied at various levels of detail. Data
from these studies will be analyzed, and the characteristics of
the facilities will be determined as necessary for input into the
HODSI~l model.
In addition to potential facilities which have been previ-
ously identified and studied, it is anticipated that other pot-
,
ential facilities may be identified. These may include offstream
storage facilities that will minimize impacts on the mainstem and

II~2
