,

The objective is to develop a long-range statewide water plan, with
~,we"- pJ"w..e$
investigations consisting of the following iao- stafs:

1. The first phase of the planning work will be a compilation of

data on and an inventory of the natural resources of Colorado and

the current state of development and use of those resources. A

bibliography and inventory of available data are scheduled to be

compiled in fiscal year 1970. The base year for compilation of

available data will be 1965.

2. The second phase of the :.program will include the development

of projections of the distribution of population and economic

activities in the State. Projections are also under way by the

Office of Business Economics and the Economic Research Service as

their. contribution to the overall effort for comprehensive watet

basin surveys under the Water Resources Planning Act of 1965. Plan

formulation will be geared to projections for the years 1980, 2000,

and 2020.

,I
,-I

3. The third phase, involving water and related land resources,

:t.

will be to determine the manner io which water requirements for the

i

projected distribution of population and economic activities might

be met with supplies available to the State under existing interstate

~~nts and court decrees. ~~

1!u- f!./'^ ,,c-
Ar. ~~ last ~ will also determine. the. prospects for impor-

~
'1(;:)
(;:)<'

tat ion of water, weather modification, and possibly desalting of

saline waters to: (1) maintain present uses; and (2) furnish projected

requirements that cannot be met with presently available supplies.

2
