FOREWORD

The Community Profile is an extensive
document providing up-te-date
information, discussion and analysis of a
wide range of subjects intended for use
during the comprehensive planning
process recently initiated. Not only does
the report provide current community
facts and figures, it also addresses
problems, issues and opportunities in a
challenging and stimulating manner. The
report will be extensively used by the
Council-appointed Comprehensive Plan
Task Force, alternative plan committees
and all other public and private
participants in the process. Hopefully,
the material will: (I) assist in the
education of the participants and help
clarify and convey information to others
and; (2) support the development of the
all important long-range physical
development policies. The formulation of
these policies is the primary objective of
this comprehensive planning process. '

The material focuses on topics relative to
the physical planning of the City.
Therefore, cultural and social issues are
not addressed. Additionally, only the City
Departments that directly influence the
development of the community or are
impacted by land use decisions are
included in the report.

The publication is a result of an intensive
effort of not only the Planning
Deportment but other City Departments
and individuals. Due to the number of
contributors and the length and diversity
of the report, there may be some lack of
continuity from section to section.
Throughout the report there is also some
redundancy of material, necessary so
that each section could stand on its own
and, therefore, be more useful to the
participants. Also due to the volume of
information and the relatively short time
frame in which it was prepared, there ore
some areas or certain details which were
not properly covered. However, as part
of the continuing comprehensive planning
process, the Planning Department intends
to pursue all necessary and appropriate

modifications so that a Comprehensive
Community Data Base will emerge as a
valuable by-product of the process.
