In the words of Bob Eise:lach, State Representative, "we are the breadbasket of the state". At the banquet Wednesday evening, you will be given a "Caste" of Morgan County Colorado. Many of the foods you ,,,ill ea~ were donated direc~ly by area producers. Others were not donated, but they are grown here in Morgan County. A majority of Excel's 1,550 employees work on the fabrica- tion flcor which processes approximately 925,000 heads annually. That equates into 10 million pounds of beef per week. The p2.ant gets about 60 percent of its cattle from ranches within 150 miles of the plant. The rest come from as far away as Canada. Kot only does the plant produce beef, but Kodak .purchases gel bO:le from the plant for use in its film processing systems. About 12 pounds of gel bone are produced from one head of cattle. In 1993, Excel completed a $30 million expansion to increase the slaughter floor size. The company is owned by Cargill, the lar- gest privately held company in the world.
