Each household alone accounts for 12,000 gallons a mon~h. <br />~e=ha~s even more importantly is the need for water for the many <br />products grown and produced in the area. In the words of Bob <br />Eise:lach, State Representative, "we are the breadbasket of the <br />state". At the banquet Wednesday evening, you will be given a <br />"Caste" of Morgan County Colorado. Many of the foods you ,,,ill <br />ea~ were donated direc~ly by area producers. Others were not <br />donated, but they are grown here in Morgan County. <br /> <br />To give you an idea of the importance of water to our area, <br />some or: our local food producers are listed below along with <br />facts on their '"ater consumption and foed production. A majority of Excel's 1,550 employees work on the fabrica- <br />tion flcor which processes approximately 925,000 heads annually. <br />That equates into 10 million pounds of beef per week. The p2.ant <br />gets about 60 percent of its cattle from ranches within 150 miles <br />of the plant. The rest come from as far away as Canada. Kot <br />only does the plant produce beef, but Kodak .purchases gel bO:le <br />from the plant for use in its film processing systems. About 12 <br />pounds of gel bone are produced from one head of cattle. In <br />1993, Excel completed a $30 million expansion to increase the <br />slaughter floor size. The company is owned by Cargill, the lar- <br />gest privately held company in the world.
