Headgate Rock DlIlII, located about 15 miles dowustrelllll !'rom

Parker Dam, is the diversion structure through which the Colorado

River Indian Reservation receives its irrigation water. This

structure maintains a constant pool elevation by means of auto-

matically operated river gates.

Palo Verde Diversion DlIlII, located about 58 miles downstrelllll

from Parker DlIlII, is the diversion structure for the Palo Verde

Irrigation District. This dlllll is also operated to maintain a con-

stant pool eJ.evation by automatica.lJ.y operated river gates.

Between Parker and !Dqlerial DBIIlS the river flows through vide

vaJ.leys for about two-thirds of the total distance of about 150

miles. It is in this reach of river that the J.ands of the

Colorado River Indian Reservation, the Palo Verde Irrigation

District, and the Cibola Va.lJ.ey are J.ocated. This reach of river

uso receives waste and drainage waters from the Indian Reservation

and Palo Verde Irrigation District. ReguJ.atorywaste from these

districts returns through a few major and numerous smaJ.J. wastew~s.

On the Indian Reservation there are two major draiIl88e return

channeJ.s llhich discharge into the river. The outfa.lJ. drain at

the lover end of the Palo Verde Irrigation District returns the

major portion of the drainage vater from that district to the

river.

!Dqlerial DlIlII, located some 150 miles downstrelllll frOlll Parker
DlIlII, is the major diversion structure to irrigation projects in
the Imperial Va.lJ.ey and Yuma areas. It diverts vater on the
right bank to the All-American Canal llhich deJ.ivers water to the
Yuma Project in Arizona and California, and Ilz!perial and Coaebella

,

.'

20
