,-'

confluence with the Green River and caught one juvenile Colorado
squawfish (205 mID TL). A total of ten species were caught during this
survey, including the native species flannelmouth sucker and bluehead
~ucker (Hasglich and Holden 1995). The capture of the juvenile Colorado
squawfish in 1995 has stemmed this proposal. The BIO/~ffiST survey was
limited to ~ne trip; a systematic survey of the Price River is necessary
to bet-ter determine the entire fish coo:u:a.unLty and thi.s rL'\'ers rol.e i...n
endangered fish recovery_ We propane a more eXLensive survey designed
to look for adult, juvenile, and age-O endangered fishes to determine if
and when these fishes utilize the Price River'-

III. Study Goals, Objectives, End Product:

The overall goals of this study are to determine if or how extensively
the endangered fishes utilize the Price River, and to determine the
biological importance of the Price River to the Green River system and
recovery of the endangered fishes.

Objectives:

1. Systematically survey the Price River from 1996-1998 to determine
if adult and/or juvenile endangered fishes (particularly Colorado
squawfish and razorback sucker} are Qresent; if adults are
present, determine if they utilize the Price River for spawning.

2. Systematically survey the Price River from 1996-1998 to determine
if age-Q endangered fish (if the Price Rive~ is utilized for
spawning) remai~ in low-velocity habitats in the Price River or
mov~ downstream into the Green River.

3. Systematically survey the lower Price River (within the high water
inundation area of the Green River) from 1996-1996 ~o determine if
ma~nstem adult colorado squawflsh utilize the Price River as a
staging/resting a~ea associated with spawning and determine if
drifting age-Q ColoradO squawfish from Desolation/Grey Canyons
utilize t~e lo~e~ Price ~~ver fer nursery habitat.

4. Determine the biological importance of the Price River to the
Green River system.

IV. Description of past performance on this or similar projects:

Similar information was synthesized for the White River project.

v. Study area (river miles, if appropriate):

Price River from Grassy trail Creek, UT downstream to the confluence with
the Green River.

VI. study Methods/Approach:

Objectives 1-3 will take
surveyed from 1996-1998,
and 2) endangered fishes
accordingly {e.g. reduce

approximately 3 years; the price River will be
If 1) flow patterns are similar between years
are not found, methods will be revised
sampling intensity or shorten the sampling
