r--
1..'"
CI")

NATIONAL P~~K SERVICE REPORT

$21,000 and that on an annual basis, these costs, together with
operation and maintenance charges, would be approximately $3,500,

It is believed that annual recreational and related benefits
(expressed in monetary terms) resulting from this reservoir would be
approximately the same as annual costs.

It is recommended that, in establishing reservoir severance lines,
consideration be given to allowing a buffer strip at least 50 feet wide
around the reservoir, with provision for additional land at such points
as may be found suitable for the recreational developments indicated.

It is recommended that developments involve primarily facilities
directly related to reservoir forms of recreation and that consideration
be given to the feasibility of ultimate county or other local agency
assumption of administration, operation, and maintenance of recreational
phases of project operation.

No National Park Service or State park areas will be affected by
the project.

Records presently available indicate no known archeological or
historic sites in the reservoir area. Service archeologists are of the
opinion that it is unlikely that they occur in this general section of
the Colorado River. It is believed that nominal reconnaissance or
contact with qualified State agencies would satisfactorily confirm this
impression or reveal indications of sites which should be investigated.

'I

"

General Description of the Area

~

Location

I;:

The proposed Rifle Gap Reservoir is on Rifle Creek, the dam site
lying in Sec. 7, T. 5 S., R. 92 W. in Garfield County, west-central
Colorado.
