0':>
M
M

"

CHAPTER VI

OTHER PROJECT USES

provide up to 3,500 acre-feet of municipal water annually by increasing
the capacity of Rifle Gap Reservoir. A municipal supply in ~xcess of
3,500 acre-feet would require constructing costly hold-over storage
capacity in the reservoir or decreasing the supply availablti for irri-
gation. A 6-m:ile conduit would be requirtid to convey water from the
reservoir to Rifle.

The added cost of providing storage capacity for municipal water
in various amounts is shewn in the following table.

"J' ,
Municipal Municipal
Active supply Municipal storage
reservoir ca)aci ty available storage cost
(acre.,.fel't (acre.,.f\Jet) cost (a/acre-foot)
7,000 011 - -
8,000 1,500 $ 330,000 220
9,000 2,600 600,000 230
10,000 3,300 860,000 I 260
11 , 000 3,800 1,100,000 I 290

ESTIJ,;ATED STORAGE COST OF,l-.UNICIPAL WATER
RIFLE GAP RESERVOIR

~'. The water would be similar in quality
for municipal use to that of the Colorado River near Rifle, but inferior
to the water of Beaver Creek. The average water quality that woulil be
stored in Rifle Gap Reservoir, determined by weighting samples accord-
ing to the volwne of run-off during the period they represent, is shown
in the following" table. -

":'1

"2'-' I

~
-t:

..
