<br /> <br />w <br />en <br />/-4 <br />--J <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />As each of the Basin states proceeds with its adoption <br />process, one or more statewide public hearings are held. <br />There is widespread announcement of the Forum and state <br />hearings, and copies of the Forum Review and associated <br />State standards are mailed to interested agencies and <br />groups. <br />The Forum members participate with their 208 agencies <br />in matters related to salinity and salinity control and <br />will continue to do so as the need arises. <br />Reclamation publishes in cooperation with USDA, the <br />Forum and other entities, a quarterly newsletter entitled <br />"Salinity Update" which provides current information on <br />Reclamation, USDA, and other activities related to salinity <br />cpntrol. In addition, the Forum and the states utilize the <br />newsletter as a means of keeping the public advised of <br />their activities. The newsletter is mailed to over 900 <br />readers. <br />Forum Activities <br />The Forum meets about twice a year or as needed to <br />discuss the salinity control program, the efforts of the <br />federal agencies and the states, and the need for <br />additional policy and/or action by the Forum. During the <br />last triennial review effort, the Forum met on May 1, 1984, <br />in Salt Lake City and adopted the preliminary report for <br />1984. The Forum then .held public meetings during the <br />summer, and after receiving comments, prepared a <br />supplemental report dated July, 1984. On October 10, 1984, <br />the Forum met in Ja9kson, Wyoming, and formally adopted the <br />supplemental report. <br />During this reporting period, the Forum also met on <br />January 9, 1985, in San Diego, California; June 18, 1985, <br />in Salt Lake City; October 29, 1985, in Phoenix, Arizona; <br />May 23, 1986, in Denver, Colorado; October 28, 1986, in San <br />Diego, California; and February 18, 1987, in Denver, <br />Colorado. In all, since the creation of the Forum in <br />November of 1973, the Forum has held 34 meetings. <br />Recently, the Forum has published a compilation of all of <br />the minutes of the Forum meetings from 1973 through 1985. <br />The Forum held its 35th meeting on May 28, 1987, in <br />Cheyenne, Wyoming, and approved this report for <br />publication. <br />In addition, the Forum has created a Work Group that <br />holds meetings on a more frequent basis to review technical <br />information that is being generated by the federal <br />agencies, to coordinate the efforts of the seven Basin <br />states, and to report back to the Forum those actions that <br />the Forum may consider. <br />The Forum has not adopted any formal, <br />since the publication of the 1984 Review. <br />Forum has taken a position on many ongoing <br />the need for the appropriation of funds by <br />(see page 5). <br /> <br />new policies <br />However, the <br />issues, such <br />the Congress <br /> <br />as <br /> <br />-59- <br /> <br /><:'r- <br />
