water supply lines, Jansen Reservoir (4.5 million gallons) and
carpios, Longsdale and Lave Plot Cemeteries (630 graves).
E. Trinidad Dam.
1. Embankment. Trinidad Dam will extend generally in a
northwest to southeast line across the Purgatoire River and Frisco

Canyon. It will be of rolled earthfill construction and have a crest

length of 6,860 feet. Maximum heights of the embankment above the

riverbed and the floor of Frisco Canyon will be 200 and 100 feet,

respectively. The crest of the dam will be 24 feet wide and will

accommodate a project service road. The embankment will have a

centrally-located impervious fill core zone supported by upstream

and downstream shells of higher strength granular fill. The upstream

and downstream sides will respectively have a blanket of protective

riprap and rock spalls.

2. Outlet works. The outlet works are located on the right

side of the Purgatoire (Picketwire) Valley adjacent to the present

river channel. This feature consists of excavated approach and exit

channels; a gated intake structure; a single barrel, high pressure

conduit; and a terminal stilling basin structure. The 10-foot diameter,

gate-controlled conduit will carry water 1,563 feet under the dam.

Maximum discharge capacity through the conduit is 5,475 c.f.s. (pool

elevation 6276.0). The control tower of the outlet works is a 209-

foot high cylindrical structure supporting a block-shaped control

facility. A 310-foot long access bridge will connect the control

tower with the main embankment.

.

..

1-4

.
