Wildlife measures would be included to compensate for losses
of wildlife habitat which could be expected to result from the canal and
lateral improvements. Cost estimates and financial and economic analyses
were based upon January 1983 appraisal-level data.

The first 13 increments consisting of the west end of the Government
Highline Canal and all the identified lateral systems in The Stage Two
area would be constructed first. A decision about constructing the final
two increments--the middle and east portions of the Government Highline
Canal--would be deferred until deemed necessary to meet salinity program
goals. Because NEPA compliance would be sought on all lS increments,
development of the entire plan is scheduled over a l3-year period with
construction to begin in fiscal year 1986.

EFFECTS ON THE COLORADO RIVER (average annual)

Decrease in salt load (tons) . . .
Reduction in salinity concentration at
Imperial Dam (mg/L). . . . . . .

l39,700

. . . . . .

l4.l

PROJECT FEATURES

Canals to be lined (miles) .
Laterals to be lined (miles)

40
300
