<br />co <br />w <br />co..j <br />C) <br /> <br />CHAPTER II <br /> <br />UNIT SETTING <br /> <br />Highline Canal serve some of the district's lands. <br /> <br />The last 2.5 miles <br /> <br />of the Price Ditch is concrete lined. <br /> <br />Mesa County Irrigation District <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Mesa County Irrigation District delivers water through the Stub <br /> <br />Ditch which is 10.2 miles long and serves 48 privately owned laterals. <br /> <br />The Stub Ditch, of which 3.5 mi les is concrete lined, serves about 900 <br /> <br />acres of land. <br /> <br />Orchard Mesa Irrigation District <br /> <br />The Orchard Mesa Irrigation District serves lands south of the <br /> <br />Colorado River. <br /> <br />Its facilities consist of the Orchard Mesa Power Canal, <br /> <br />Pumping Plant, and Canals Nos. 1 and 2. The Orchard Mesa facilities were <br /> <br />originally constructed by private capital, but in 1922 the district <br /> <br />entered into a contract to become a division of the Grand Valley Project. <br /> <br />The Orchard Mesa Power Canal extends about 3.5 miles along the east <br /> <br />side of the Colorado River to terminate about 1 mile south of Palisade at <br /> <br />the Grand Valley Powerplant and the Orchard Mesa Pumping Plant. Through <br /> <br />this reach it delivers irrigation water to approximately 560 acres of <br /> <br />land, utilizing 14 independently owned and operated laterals. <br /> <br />The Orchard Mesa Pumping Plant lifts water to two Orchard Mesa <br /> <br />canals. Orchard Mesa Canal No. 1 is 16.3 miles long, while Orchard Mesa <br /> <br />Canal No.2 lS 17.3 miles long and is gunite lined for its entire <br /> <br />length. <br /> <br />These two canals convey water to 163 privately owned and oper- <br /> <br />ated laterals on Orchard Mesa, south of the Colorado River. This system <br /> <br />provides water to about 6,830 acres. <br /> <br />The Grand Valley Powerplant was constructed by the Federal Govern- <br /> <br />ment with funds advanced by the Public Service Company of Colorado.
