The reservoir is now 3.5 feet from full. The water year the
reservoir was this full was 1986.

Open forum discussions on Flaming Gorge operations have been
taking place at meetings of the "Flaming Gorge Working Group".
The next Working Group meeting is scheduled for January 15 at 11
am in Vernal, Ut. For more information on the Working Group,
contact Ed Vidmar at 801-379-1000.

ASPINALL - August unregulated inflow into Blue Mesa was 98,000
acre-feet or about 148 percent of average. Precipitation during
the month was recorded at 150 percent of normal. Currently the
inflow rate into Blue Mesa Reservoir is about 1,100 cfs and
reservoir releases are averaging 2,200 cfs. Blue Mesa's present
elevation is 7513.3 feet with a storage content of 775,000 acre-
feet.

Releases from Crystal Dam are currently at 2,000 cfs. The
Gunnison Diversion Tunnel is presently taking about 700 cfs from
the river which leaves approximately 1,300 cfs in the Black
Canyon of the Gunnison. Reservoir releases from crystal have
increased sightly over last month's. This is primarily due to
the above normal water storage upstream in Blue Mesa Reservoir
and the need to draw the reservoir system down for the winter
season.

It should be noted that the large EI Nino event that is currently
being observed in the Pacific equatorial regions is predicted to
result in above average precipitation for the southwest this fall
season. Therefore, reservoir operational changes will probably
be required more frequently in the coming months.

The "Aspinall Unit Working Group" meeting was held August 21,
1997, in Gunnison, Colorado. At this meeting, review of last
spring operations, and plans for late summer and fall operations
were discussed. These meetings are open forum discussions on the
Aspinall Unit operations with many interested groups
participating. Anyone needing further information about these
meetings should contact Ed Warner in the Grand Junction Area
Office at (970) 248-0654.

NAVAJO - August unregulated inflow into Navajo Reservoir was
about 89,000 acre-feet or approximately 160 percent of average.
The current reservoir inflow is about 650 cfs and the water
surface elevation is at 6069.7 feet which corresponds to a
reservoir content of about 1,476,000 acre-feet. Reservoir
releases are currently at 600 cfs. This release is expected to
