<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CRWOCB's Public Notice <br /> <br />Last November, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board-Colorado River Basin <br />Region (CRWQCB) issued a public notice that it planned to begin the review process in January <br />1999 for its Water Quality Control Plan for the Colorado River Basin. Included in this month's <br />Board folder is the CR WQCB' s notice that it will be holding a public workshop in Palm Desert, on <br />January 27" to solicit public input on its plan. Below is the tentative list of issues under <br />consideration for review/update: <br /> <br />. Guidelines for Sewage Disposal from Land Developments <br /> <br />. Water Quality Objectives for Nitrates and Total Dissolved Solids (mS) <br /> <br />. Water Recycling <br /> <br />. Beneficial Use Designation of Aquifers <br /> <br />. The Impact of Geothermal Fluids on Surface and Groundwater Quality <br /> <br />. Evaluation of Beneficial Uses of Water bodies in Imperial Valley <br /> <br />Atlas Uranium Mine Tailinl!s <br /> <br />At last month's Board meeting there was a discussion related to the mill tailings that have <br />been deposited along the River from operations of the Atlas Mineral Corporation, which processed <br />uranium there during the Cold War. The Board requested that a letter be forwarded to the <br />appropriate federal agencies and that representatives from those agencies meet with the Board and <br />discuss the actions they are proposing to take to remedy the leaching of toxic material into the River. <br /> <br />Staffhas contacted the Executive Director of the Colorado River Salinity Control Forum and <br />representatives of the MWD to gather background information for use in preparing the letter.
