Since the populated areas of this section of the country are located <br />in an arid region, one of the mosr pressing requirements has been thar of obtaining <br />sufficient water supplies to meet ever increasing demands. During World War II this <br />necessity of providing a sufficient and dependable domestic water supply became even <br />more acute because of the requirements of national defense with its accompanying <br />concentration of fighting forces and supporting military and naval operations. <br /> <br />Domestic water to meer these requirements has been provided by a group of <br />California cities that had the courage and foresight to build a great aqueduct system <br /> <br />[ 14] <br />
