The Basin is completely surrounded by watershed
tributary to the Colorado River. Tributaries of the Yampa
drain the watershed to the north and tributaries of the main
stem of the Colorado drain the area to the south. The south

boundary of the Basin consists of the Uhite River Plateau of a
maximum altitude of 13,000 feet and the Roan Plateau of a max-
imum altitude of 9,100 feet. The north boundary is a ridge of
a maximum elevation of about 8,000 feet.
The status of land o~mership has remained almost
static the past twenty years ~dth 79.5 percent public land and
20.5 percent private. An increase in irrigation involving the
use of private land and an increase in recreation development
primarily involving the use of public land is anticipated.

Land Ownership

Publi c Land
National Forest
Bureau of Land ~anagement
Total Federal Land
State & Local Government
Total Public Land

354,400 Acres
l'i2~.900 Acres
1, 7 ,300 Acres
513,600 Acres
1,936,900 Acres

Private Land
I rriga t ed
Grazing & Dry Farmed
Total Private Land

Basin Total

35,200 Acres
464.900 Acres
500,100 Acres

2,437,000 Acres

14.6 Percent
~ Percent
(TJ Percent
2:lt Percent
79.5 Percent

1.4 Percent
19.1 Percent
20.5 Percent

100.0 Percent

Hater Runoff
The annual historic runoff of the White River at the

-3-

, I

.""".."
