I

-
.....~, ,'"\ --. 3
I] I; , 1_
'w.;.....n......

I

16

I

before and after the closure of Blue Mesa in early 1966, indicating that

the call did not go up the mainstream and curtail diversions under the

I

Curecanti and other junior decrees. After closure of Blue Mesa, it is

I

likely that Blue Mesa releases to maintain a 200 cfs instream flow in the

Canyon kept the Redlands call off mainstream water rights above the North

I

Fork. This appeared to be the case even in an extreme dry year like 1977.

The Redlands call was accordingly not operated in the model.

I

I

Three irrigation water rights below the North Fork confluence total

about 150 cfs and are senior to the irrigation water right for the

I

Gunnison Tunnel.

These rights have reportedly never called since Blue

Mesa was closed in 1966, and accordingly were not operated in the model.

I

The conditional rights to be retained by P & M are senior to the 1982

I

power decree at the Gunnison Tunnel and if developed below the North Fork

could call water past the 29-mile reach.

Currently, the ultimate

I

disposition of these rights is unknown and they have not been operated in

the model. The conditional water rights in the Gunnison Gorge held by

I

Colorado Ute and the City of Delta are also sey.ior to the 1982 Gunnisoy,

Tunnel power decree, but have not been operated in the model because these

I

water rights may be exchanged for Blue Mesa storage water.

I

F. Principal Water Rights

I

The principal water rights which are operated in the model are those

I

associated with storage at Blue Mesa and Taylor Park reservoirs and with

I

diversions at the Gunnison Tunnel. The latter include irrigation

I

WBLA, Inc. 1909 Broadway, *3, Boulder, Colorado 80302
