Chairman of the <br />SUbcommittee on Water. Power. and Offshore Energy Resources. <br />House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. introduced <br />H.R. 4498 earlier this year. Hearings were held on April 26. <br />but the chairman refused to recognize and call upon any <br />Administration witnesses. That matter was ultimately resolved <br />and the Commissioner of Reclamation. Director of the National <br />Parks Service. Director of the Fish and Wildlife Service. and <br />the Administrator of the Western Area Power Administration all <br />testified at a second hearing on May 22. <br /> <br />~1': <br /> <br />;\ <br /> <br />, <br />^ <br /> <br />,:}o <br /> <br />'.; <br /> <br />.'1, <br />~. ' <br /> <br />The bill was marked-up and reported out of the subcommittee <br />on June 26. The only amendments made weIe minor editorial <br />changes offered by Mr. Miller himself. This was done with the <br />understanding that substantive amendments would be discussed <br />during the next three weeks and then entertained at full <br />committee mark-up. which is scheduled for July 18. <br /> <br />~- <br />',;:. <br />L. <br />/!1,~" <br />,'j.;. <br />.~" <br /> <br />On the Senate side, Arizona senators John McCain (R) and <br />DeConcini (D) introduced a bill on June 28.
