.

These recent studies, while incomplete, confirm previous analysis and

~~~Qe Narrows Dam will be a safe structure. Further, there is no
indication from data developed thus far that seepage from the reservoir
-
^..
will be excessive or create conditions to undermine dam stability.
5. Validity of Flood Control Benefits
Flood control benefits for the Narrows Unit are supplied by the Corps
-
of Engineers. The latest benefits were provided by the Corps in
November 1975 based on the 3-l/4 percent authorized interest rate and
r--
were $800,000 annually. These benefits were based on the assumption
that Cherry Creek and Chatfield Lakes would be in place and operational.
-
The addition of Bear Creek take to the system would not affect the
flood control benefit analysis for the Narrows Unit according to a
,.......
letter from the Corps of Engineers dated April 22, 1977.
6.
Reservoir would Dislocate 642 People
........
The 642 people are made up of 212 families. (The FES indicated that
-
825 people would be displaced but an actual count recently completed
reduced that number to 642.) Of the 212 families l3l are owner
f
.
t
occupants and 60 or 46 percent have requested appraisals. Of 8l
renter occupants several families have indicated they are anxious to
,
move as soon as possible. A total of 90 owners, including resident
,.
and aBsentee owners, have requested appraisals. Forty-five of the
".
,
,
family heads are retired, lO are on welfare, and 10 obtain their
i
J
~
livelihood from work outside the reservoir area. These 65 family heads
are not dependent on obtaining their livelihood from the reservoir
12
r-
I
I'
1
;
area and represent 31 percent of the total families.
,.
