, '

~p-toffs was set at 432 feet with a maximum deviation from vertical of
Q\J\.l\

only 6 inches. This system provided a deep positive cutoff under

extremely difficult conditions.

Construction procedures required to assure integrity of the slurry

trench cutoff are not unusual or difficult to control. Accordingly,

excess costs are not a factor. In fact, the slurry trench cutoff

system is more economical than other proposed methods of seepage

control.

Collection of data for a stability analysis was started in September

1976 to confirm necessary design provisions for a stable structure.

Subsurface investigations at the end of the slurry trench as well as

pump tests are complete. Model studies utilizing these data are

underway. It is significant that, so far, data developed from the

study program are consistent with design criteria adopted for the

feasibility design. The stability analysis review by an independent

panel is expected in August 1977.

Steady state analysis conducted by the USGS has already verified that

seepage will not exceed about 50 ft3/s.

Data developed in the stability
"

analy.sis will also be utilized to assist in a transient state study of

the reservoir by USGS to determine seepage to and from the reservoir,

i.e., bank storage.

11

~ ;........

_.

I:""

...-:--

-

-

-

l...-

~
,.
i,
~,
I'.

~...
\
I
,
,
i

t'.
r
f

-=-

~
,
,

I
.u__~
