-'~~

WATER SHORTAGE???

The most optimistic assessments for scheduling new projects indicate
it will take 10-12 years for studies, design, permitting, engineer-
ing and construction before any water is actually available from such
projects.

Under the DWD's tap allocation program which limits new connections to
7,000 taps annually which can be added to the system, demand is expect-
ed to equal supply by 1986. Since this date is several years before
additional water is available, 1986-1993 are expected to be critical
years in water supply, When demand reaches the Water Board's present
annual yield of 295,000 acre feet of water, the Board will be faced
with important basic policy questions on the availability -- especial-
ly outside of the city -- of connections to the Denver system.

The CAC and the Board are examining strategies which may be available
to the DWD during this ~ritical period to assure an adequate water
supply, Public input is encouraged to help develop these strategies.

- 6 -
