since the completion of the Bureau of Reclamation Report,

other alternatives have been considered by the Washington

County Water Conservancy District.

Wi th the advent of the

Quail Creek Reservoir Project, still other alternatives are

available which, if the geologic conditions are favorable,

could be far more cost effective than the alternative proposed

in the Bureau of Reclamation' Report. This report will briefly

outline these alternatives.

PROPOSED DIRECTION

The dominant project concept for the new alternatives is to

eliminate the reverse osmosis filtration unit, to collect all

LaVerkin Springs water, and to transmit the flow via gravity

pipeline to Purgatory Flat for total evaporation and storage.
The water would then be replaced to the Virgin River water

rights owners by the purchase of a like volume of water from

the Quail Creek Reservoir.

PROPOSED FACILITIES

It is proposed to construct the upper and lower diversion

dams and bypass pipeline as proposed in the "LaVerkin Springs

Unit" Concluding Report, December 1981, prepared by the Bureau

of Reclamation. The entire flow of the LaVerkin Springs would

be diverted at the lower diversion and carried through a 24-

II

inch gravity flow pipeline to the Purgatory Flat area to be
002576

Q

P6/L2

CREAMER AND NOBLE 4fN.~ONSULTlNG ENGINEERS
