, UUuJa

FYe,iect ,;lternatives - Over the years, numerous reservoir sites in the upper
South Flatte basin 11ave been located and studied, Many of these sites would pro-
vide sr,2.11 stcrage reservoir to regulate individual tributaries of the basin.
Numerous sites ,'lOuld be required to obtain similar storage capability SUCl1 as 1\'10
Forks Reservoir. Other concepts have been idel~tified I'rnch involve th!2 ccnstructien
of multi;Jle, larger reservoirs on the majer stream branches.

G..'\OSS RESERVOIR BIIARGENENT

This project, located in Boulder County, would oonsist of raising D,IO's exist-
ing dam to increase the storage capacity freCI 42,000 aore-feet to 113,000 acre-feet.

Prc,iect Alternatives - The location of Gross Reservoir is strategic to the
regulation of the Moffat Tunnel flows and to the release of vlater to the DvJD's Moffat
Treatment Plant. No significant alternative storage sites along South Boulder Creek
have been identified to date.

aTHER jiLTERI'IATIVES

A number of other methods or concepts have been identified for developing
future .oiater supply for the Denver metropolitan area as fo1101'IS:

~

1. Ground"~ter Development - The prima~J concept would involve developing
and mining the 'later stored in the Denver Basin ji,quifer.

2. \-leather Modification - This concept I'muld involve the seeding of winter
-.J storms to augment the snol'JIlack produced in Denver's mountain 1'~tersheds.

3. Watershed Managsnent - This concept involves the manipulation of vegeta-
tion in the mOLmtain watersheds to increase the amount of nmoff.

4. Conversion of Asricultural Water Riphts to r~icipal Use - Under Colorado
l'Iater 10.;01, agricul turo.l water ril#lts may be purchased and converted to mW1icipal use.
i Many of the agricultural water ril#lts in the South Platte River dro.inage upstream
frem Denver have already been purchased but sane future potential for additional
conversions eYist.

6
