STREAMFLOW RECORDS

Hartman Draw at Cortez

The gage is located 0.1 mile upstream from the confluence with McElmo

Creek, about one mile southwest of Cortez. The drainage area encompasses

34 square miles. Records are available for the period of April 1978 through

1984. The accuracy of streamflow records is considered to be "good" by the

USGS, except for the winter months which are "poor." "Good" indicates that

the error in the daily records is believed to be less than ten percent and "poor"

indicates that the error is probably greater than 15 percent. Most of the flow

of Hartman Draw is contributed by return flows from irrigated lands of the

Montezuma Irrigation District, with water imported from the Dolores River

basin.

McElmo Creek above Alkali Canyon

The gage is located about four miles southwest of Cortez, with a drainage

area of 147 square miles. Records are available for the period of April 1978

through 1984. Records are considered to be good except for winter months,

which are considered to be poor. Almost all of the flow at the gaging station

is contributed by return flows from irrigated lands of the Montezuma Irrigation

District, with water imported from the Dolores River basin.

Mud Creek at HiRhway 3Z near Cortez

The gage is located one mile upstream from the confluence with the

McElmo Creek, about 4.5 miles southwest of Cortez. The drainage is about

34 square miles, much of which is irrigated as part of the Montezuma Irrigation

District with water imported from the Dolores River basin. Most of the flow

of Mud Creek is contributed by irrigation return flows. Records are considered

to be good. The period of record is October 1978 through 1984.

-3-

J.... ..
'.."'
