,
.
)

!

8.

Dallas Creek Project, Colorado CBR)

-29-

feasible plan be developed to correct this deficiency, project
funding should be provided to implement the plan.

7.

To mitigate wildlife habitat losses, the Bureau of Reclamation
acquire and develop approximately 6,000 acres for intensive
management as wildlife resource areas adjacent or near to the
Ridgway Reservoir. At least 4,200 acres should be located on Log
Hill Mesa for the primary purpose of providing deer winter range.
Capital costs of $1,000,000 plus $30,000 annual 0 & M costs
should be provided from Section 8 funding to implement this
recommendation. Administration of these lands could be under
the authority of the Colorado Division of Wildlife or another
agency, based upon an agreeable management plan for the area
developed by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Fish and Wildlife
Service, Bureau of Reclamation and the administering agency.

The re-alignment for Highway 550 follow the general course of
Cow Creek to the eastern shore of Ridgway Reservoir, then
generally following that shoreline southward below the steep
hillsides, to the old highway alignment in Section 4, two
miles north of the town of Ridgway. Also, that the highway
right-of-way be fenced with eight-foot-high fencing to
restrict deer passage on to the right-of-way, underpass
structures be designed to encourage deer passage, and that
one-way structures be provided in the fence to pass deer
off the right-of-way. The specific costs of these proposals
should be included as a Section 5 project cost.

The costs and benefits relating to these recommendations are tabulated
in Table IV.

,
,

Q
