<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Power Man:et Survey - Colorado River Storage Project <br /> <br />Generating plants in industrial establishments are expected to <br />produce some 4.0 billion kilowat~hours by 1980, about 1.5 times as much <br />as in 19S5. The total output will however amount to but 5.9 percent of <br />the region's total requirements, Ii considerable decrease percentagewise, <br />from 1955. <br /> <br />Power Supply <br />Of the 5,101,864 kilowatts of installed electric generating capacity <br />in operation in the region at the end of 1955, 3,511,004 kilowatts was <br />owned and operated by electric ut:l.lity systems serving reg:l.oDal loads. <br />The balance was divided between establishaents that generate for their <br />own use (578,360 kilowatts) and utilities serving loads outside the region. <br /> <br />Under average stream-flow conditions the dependable capacity of the <br />region's electric utilities is. est1lllated to be 3,600,000 kilowatts and <br />the annual energy as 22.4 billion kilowatt-hours. In the event of ad- <br />verse water conditions, the dependable capacity will drop to 3,500,000 <br />kilowatts and the annual energy output to 20.5 billion kilowat~hours. <br /> <br />In 1955 adequate tranSl1lission interconnections existed between only <br />a few of the subdivisions of the region. Therefore, advantages to be <br />gained by Sharing available supply sources and in diversity of loads were <br />not available in the region. <br /> <br />Between 1955 and 1960 about 1,464,000 kilowatts of dependable capacity <br />is scheduled to be added by the electric utility systems and about 24,000 <br />kilowatts is scheduled for retirement. These net additions will bring the <br />utility system (adverse year) dependable capacity resources to Slightly <br />over 4,950,000 kilowatts. No additions are definitely scheduled beyond <br />1960 and no retirements were assUllled beyond that date. <br /> <br />A SUIIIII1ary of estillated demandS, reserve requirements, available <br />power supply, and required additional capacity for 1960, 1970, and 1980 <br />is shown on the following tabulation: <br /> <br />-vii- <br /> <br />
