Federal Power CQmmission

Although irrigation energy requirelllent/l for the region 8IIlount to only
about 14 percent of the total requirelllents, , in Area II, Arizona, it.8IIlounts
to almost 40percent. The irrigation and a:Lr-conditioning loads of this
area are pril1larily responsible for the fact: that the peak de!Iland of the
region occurs in the SUDImer instead of the winter.

Estimates of Future
Power Requirements
Esti.lllates of the. region's future electric energy requirelllents were de-
veloped by subareas and areas for each of the major custoil18r classifications.

. In making these estimates, considerat~on was given to past trends of
use. in each classification, past and estimlj.ted future population, natural
resource development anticipated, and the ~.resent and probable future eco-
nomic activities in each area. In estimatlls for some classif:l:cations
weight was also given to average annual us~ per customer, the present and
probable future appliance saturation, and '\;he relative cost of electric
power and other energy sources. .

The electric utility energy requireDte~ts of the region are expected
to inorease from 13.5 billion kilowtt-.hou:rs in 1955 to 63.1 billion .
kilowatt-hours in 1980, an average ~al:l.ncrease of 6.4 percent.
