<br />OOlOjJe <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Discussion Drsft <br /> <br />1721.3-3 Criteria for classification for retention and interim <br />management. <br /> <br />To be classifi~d for retention'and interim management, lands <br />must have value for one or more of the following uses: <br /> <br />,(a) Domestic livestock grazing, This includes the <br />protection, use and development of forage producing <br />public lands and the management of livestock ,use to <br />obtain a sustained yield of forage and livestock <br />products, in accordance with the principles of the Taylor <br />Grazing Act, as amended, (43 USC 315 et seq.) and the <br />Alaska Grazing Act (48 USC 471 et seq.) <br /> <br />Lands may be retained and managed if they are <br />physically suitable for production of livestock forage, <br />and federal ownership is required to: <br /> <br />(1) Stabilize the livestock industry dependent <br />on the public lands, or <br /> <br />(2) Avoid economically burdensome diminuation of <br />grazing privileges to livestock operators <br />dependent in whole or in part upon the public <br />lands, or <br /> <br />(3) Assure effective and econo~ical administration <br />of grazing districts. <br /> <br />(b) ; Fish and wildlife development and utilization. This <br />includes the management and development of habitat to <br />obtain a sustained yield of fish and wildlife, and the <br />provision of access for the utilization of fish and <br />wildlife, under appropriate coordination with interested <br />State and Federal agencies. Lands may be retained and <br />managed if they are physically suitable for fish and <br />wildlife habitat, and federal ownership is required to: <br /> <br />(1) Provide an adequate area of hunting and fishing <br />ground for the general public, or <br /> <br />\ ' <br />\ <br /> <br />(2) M~intain habitat and food supply for the fish <br />and wildlife population dependent upon the public <br />lands and being maintained under federal and <br />state programs. <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />, <br /> <br />I <br />\ <br /> <br />., <br />
