Photographic Coverage,
In September 1974 photographic monitoring of Bripge Creek Canyon by low
elevation flight was performed using a Hass1eblad camera and 70 mm
Infrared color film. The purpose is to obtain an inventory of existing
vegetation. Later flights will be made to eompare vegetation following
repeated cycles of the reservoir elevation.
5. Moisture Rock Samples
Two sets of sealed rock samples taken from Rainbow Bridge have been
analyzed in the Bureau of Reclamation E&R Center Labs in Denver for :
moisture content. One sampled group was obtained on August 30, 1974, after
the reservoir had peaked and been under the bridge for 60 days. The
other group was obtained on Narch26, 1974, before the reservoir, at
elevation 3650 feet, reached the axis. The results of this initial
determination indicate that the reservoir influence on moisture content

in the rock which forms the bridge is nil. The claim that moisture will
be induced from the reservoir and harm the bridge rock is not substantiated
by thi s test.
6. Rock Mechanics

Detailed laboratory determination of the physical properties of the Navajo
and Kayenta formation rock from the subject area has been completed by
the Bureau of Reclamation Engineering & Research Laboratories in Denver.
These test results are contained in 149 pages of data. This data will
be used for future comparisons and correlations with other related data
that is being obtained in the monitoring program.

~~~~~
:l
't
~~~

~~~
'r
W'~i!
~,,,,
I
""""$1
a'~{;~;;'~'"
~~t~
,~~~~
;~~,"J"
.-1.",:-"$:
~<
~
,.,
~SfI:~
~:~::
4 t~~~
.wt._~~~~
'0 v,.
f!i;:'-::
.~?~~~>",
