Sedimentation Surveys
Twenty-two permanently established sedimentation canyon sections were
resurveyed in December 1974. No change from previous surveys has
oceurred.
11. Meteorological Station
A new meteorological station was anchored in. Bridge Creek Canyon and
aetivated in November 1974. Adjustments in the instrumentation were
still being made at this reporting. Data recorded by this station
relates to the factors of barometric pressure, humidity, wind direction
and speed and temperature of water and air. : These data will be used in
correlating funetions with other parameters of the monitoring program.
CONCLUSIONS

The Rainbow Bridge National Monument monitoring has covered an initial

cyele of maximum and minimum reservoir elevations. It is, however, still

premature to reach hard eonclusions because the maximum reservoir eyele

has not yet evolved~

"

It is significant that diagnostie data collected to date reflects no

adverse physical reaction that can be related to the initial reservoir

incursion to maximum elevation 3667 feet under the bridge. These data

do, however, point strongly to the destructive potential of natural

phenomenon such as solar thermal gradients that cause the rock to expand

and contract under influence of seasonal cycles. Such activity occurs

independent of the reservoir.

7

;t
I

'r

Ii

j{.'h~,_ ~
~:~i

I

f;i'4,,,

~I.~

C:tit~

~A.-_,::i
~{~~~
"fA,<-"
~~~":~
!'l:~,.",
ii*'"
~,"'.,;
'.r~,!,,-";~
~~
~~~
;~:'r~
~~!;;~J1

::;;'::"-:;.-.
~:~~~~;?~~~
.:.-:;.:......-.:.

:.:,-'.;.';':;/

.-...-.......

.~.-- :-.
-;-.'--..--.".

- : ;.::~~;.: .:;-:{

)~;~iill~!ttft~~~~1r~~~i!~~~~~~.~1!~~~gi~1~~~i~~~fii%~4fJ;~i~;!~~frj'~~ffr~~~~~cbf~i~ll~~~til~~~ffl!~J;~J~~,
