Seismi c r1onitori ng
The location of the Rainbow Bridge microseismic station is currently
being finalized with the assistance of the USGS. With the neeessary
funding made available, this ageney will expedite the installation of
equipment as soon as it can be purchased. The equipment will be miero-
seismic instrument probably making use of solar energy as a power source
and equipped to telemeter data to Golden, Colorado, through Bureau of
Reel amati on microwave systems. All earth tremors or shocks that occur
in the immediate vicinity of Bridge Creek Canyon, regardless of the
source, will be reeorded.
9. Eeology
Inspeetions of the Rainbow Bridge National Monument have been made in
respeet to eeology. In broad concept it is reasonable to state that
environmentally no unantieipated changes are oecurring in the reservoir
slopes that are not eommon to new reservoirs. Specifieally, a light
, eolor change of the rock slopes is evolving from light colored mineral
precipitants and readjustment of sideslope sand deposits is occurring.

,

Sparse plant life or vegetation which is indigenous to the banks of the
creek and have been immersed for a sufficient period of time by the
reservoir have died. In that the reservoir and creek water have been
clear ~fsediments, no new sediments are observable at this time.
It is anticipated, however, that periodic excess runoff in flow of the
creek wi 11 form such deposits when it enters the reservoi r.

6

M:;~~~1
~~;:~~;i.

'~~j~
~?i~~
.~~

.c. -. ,_.:~.'~.
. i-..-.;":;.'..-,.:"

'r

~''''M'
~*~~
..~,-~:,
~,;;;!l

:,,;''''.>;
~~~j;:
~;1*~
;1t".&",,;
:~~t;:
)*~2
I
~:(~\~;;~~
~~;?
t:;r:~:~~
.-:,-.....:. .
,-_.,..:;~' ..:':
':::-- .:~;.:.~.;
~-. -,","-:;.".
>C.-'._"
......
