<br />0' . r I'"' <br />U \. 1. .~ '; <br /> <br />IRREVERSIBLE AND IRRErRIEVABLE COMMITMmTS OF RESOORCES <br /> <br />The principal resources to be consumed will be the estimated <br /> <br />1 million tons of coal ~nd approximately 7,000 acre-feet of water to <br /> <br />be used annually for each 430-mw unit. <br /> <br />The large amounts of steel, wood, cement, etc., used in the plant <br /> <br />and transmission line construction will be largely irretrievable, as <br /> <br />will the land on which the plant is constructed, for all practical <br /> <br />purposes. <br /> <br />IUBLIC MEETINGS AND INFORMATION MEDIA <br /> <br />Meetings were held June 5, 1970, and December 2, 1970, to discusS <br /> <br />the environmental aspects of the ~lant. <br /> <br />These meetings were attended <br /> <br />by Federal and state officials, university representatives, and repre- <br /> <br />sentatives of companies working with Utah Power & Light Company. Lists <br /> <br />of those attending these meetings are included in the Appendix. <br /> <br />The Company has made information on the plant, and its environ- <br /> <br />mental protection plans, widely available to the press and radio,and <br /> <br />TV stat ions. <br /> <br />COORDINATION OF CONI'ROL EFFORrS <br /> <br />In the discharge of its environmental responsibilitie~ as a party <br /> <br />to the contract for sale of water for the Huntington Canyon Plant, which <br /> <br />have been delegated by the Secretary of the Interior to the Commissioner <br /> <br />of the Bureau of Reclamation and, in turn, to the Regional Director, <br /> <br />Salt Lake City, Utah, Reclamation is taking, or has taken, the follow- <br /> <br />ing steps: <br /> <br />42 <br />
