Expected water penetration for each soil type in
the irrigated area.
a. Determine net irrigation for each irrigation event
from field data. Inflow minus outflow. EL-l & EL-2
require calculations from instantaneous r,eading and length
of time. EL-3 and EL-4 require verificati~n of data recorded
in the field.
b. From soil surveyor field information gat!,ered during the
irrigation season determine soil water holding capacity to
crop maximum rooting depth. One crop to one rooting depth
per site monitored for each different net irrigation may
require 7 calculations.
2. Compare actual water penetration to expected.
Explain differences - basic data wrong?
a. Prepare a chart showing actual estimated depth of water
penetration from step 1 above with actual water penetration
beside this data. This will need to be done for each
irrigation event.
3. Ask soil scientist and engineer to assist in explaining
the differences and making adjustments.
4. Recheck intake values - run data for each irri, gation through
a TI-59 programmable calculator or computer.
5. Compare design intake values to actual data. Ask engineer
to help in making adjustments to properly design valve.

53
