.

,

, ~r~~~_
:.: )

"

'0"'1
I
..'

,~

River and Dallas Creek would be formed by the l72-foot-high, rolled
earthfill Ridgway Dam and a 1,460-foot-long dike. The l7,600-acre-
foot Dallas Divide Reservoir on Pleasant Valley Creek would be
formed by the l65-foot-high, rolled earthfill Dallas Divide Dam.
The 825-acre-foot Sneva Reservoir would be at an off stream site near
Cow Creek. The storage reservoirs' water supplies would be supple-
mented or (in the case of Sneva) entirely supplied by the 8-l/Z-mile
Cow Creek Feeder Canal, the 13-l/2-mile Dallas Creek Feeder Canal,
and an existing ditch, respectively.

Water from Ridgway Reservoir would be pumped by the Ridgway Pumping
Plant to the l6-mile-long McKenzie Canal for distribution, water
from the Dallas Divide Reservoir would be distributed to project lands
through the 5-mile Pleasant Valley and 9-mile Log Hill Mesa Canals,
and. water from Sneva Reservoir would be distributed by the Sneva
Outlet Canal. Project laterals and drains would be constructed as
needed.

A farm on the Dallas Creek Project is expected to require approximately
155 acres of Class 1 land in single ownership or its equivalent in land
in lower classes in order to provide an adequate level of living for
the farm family and permit reasonable payments on project costs. There-
fore, the project authorizing legislation should provide for delivery
of water to 160 acres of Class 1 land or the equivalent, as determined
by the Secretary, in land of lower classes.

The project municipal and industrial water supply would be developed
at Ridgway Reservoir and would be delivered to the Tri-County Water
Conservancy District on the Uneompahgre River below Ridgway Pumping
Plant. The district would be responsible for treatment of the water
and delivery to the water users. Water would be supplied to Olathe,
Montrose, Delta, and surrounding rural areas.

,
,

Conditional decrees for water rights with an appropriation date of
November 16, 1956, have been granted by the State of Colorado to the
Tri-County Water Conservancy District for 223,046 acre-feet of storage
in Ridgway Reservoir and 14,089 acre-feet of storage in Dallas Divide
Reservoir. The distriet is now in the process of aequiring other
rights needed for the project, includ.ing an additional right to cover
the full 17,600 acre-feet of storage capaeity in Dallas Divide Reser-
voir, a storage right for 825 acre-feet of Sneva Reservoir, and direct
flow rights on a number of streams from which water would be used
without storage for project purposes. No difficulty in obtaining the
necessary rights is anticipated.

~i
rl

.,

Operation of the Dallas Creek Project would deplete the flow from the
Uncompahgre River to the Colorado River by an estimated average of

3
