be developed by some other alternative. Descriptions of the
alternatives should be sufficiently detailed to allow for a
reasonable assessment of impacts associated with the construc-
tion, operation, maintenance, and abandonment phases of the

various alternatives.

Consideration of possible alternatives will be subject to
the following limitations regarding Narrows Dam. The investi-
gation of mains tern storage will not include any re-analysis of
the Narrows versus the Hardin dam sites nor of the dam safety
aspects of the Narrows Dam as proposed by the U.S. Water and
Power Resources Service. However, it will include considera-

tion, at a level of detail consistent with other such

alternatives, of a reduction in the flood control capacity of

Narrows and, at a level of detail consistent with other such

alternatives, of hydropower generation at the Narrows site.

Preliminary Evaluation and Comparison of Impacts (Task IV)

The primary emphasis in this task will be the identi-

fication and preliminary evaluation of anticipated impacts of

each alternative. This evaluation will be based upon the

criteria selected for measuring impacts (Task II). The level

of detail at which this evaluation will be accomplished shall

be sufficient to permit screening out those alternatives which

appear to be less feasible or realistic on the basis of

technical, socio-economic or environmental reasons.

-9-
