Ques t iQO~ 6

~ WHAT IS THE EVAPORATION LOSS FROM THE DAM LIKELY TO BE?

Answer 8:

The U.S.B.R. estimates the annual net evaporation loss from the dam to be
36,000 acre feet. This estimate is a net increase in evaporation due to the

reservoir over and above losses from present land use characteristics.

We have no reason to dispute this estimate based upon our review of basic data
on evaporation rates in the Fort Morgan area.

Evaporation losses will be least when the Narrows Reservoir is drawn down and
greatest when the reservoir is full. Thus, the largest total evaporation will
occur when its loss will tend to have the minimum effect. Because the reser-
voir area will always be changing, the evaporation loss will vary from year to
year.

.

.
