<br />OOLORADO RIVER STORAGE PROJECT <br /> <br />17 <br /> <br /> <br />FLAMING' GORGE STORAGE UNIT, UTAH <br /> <br />Work on the $33,6 million prime contract for construction of the <br />502-foot high concrete dam and 108,000-kilowatt powerplant on the <br />Green River in Utah is running behind schedule at June 30, 1961. <br />Work completed at June 30, 1961, was estimated at 47 percent in 60 <br />percent of the overall time allowed by the contract. Excavation for <br />the dam and powerplant foundation and keyways was completed and <br />placement of concrete in both structures was initiated in October 1960. <br />The first phase of clearing the reservoir site was completed during <br />the spring and progress 'is well ahead of schedule on the final phases <br />of clearing, Various items of fixed equipment such as generators, <br />turbines, cranes, and embedded metalwork for penstocks and outlet <br />pipes were in the process of manufacture and fabrication at the close <br />of the fiscal yenr. <br /> <br />GLEN CANYON STORAGE UNIT, AR,IZONA <br /> <br />At June 30, 1961, construction of the nO-foot high concrete arch <br />dam and the 900,000-kilowatt powerplant continued behind schedule. <br />Physical completion of the prime contract to date is estimated at 52 <br />percent while time elapsed for overall completion is 60 percent. Con- <br />crcte lining of both spillway tunnels'is underway and to date approxi- <br />mately 1.5 million cubic yards of concrete have been placed in the <br />dam and powerplant, Fabrication of the penstocks and river outlet <br />pipes was completed and their installation in the dam and powerplant <br />structure is underway, <br />Various items of fixed equipment for installation in the dam and <br />powerplant such as radial gates and gate hoists, outlet gate valves, <br />cranes and turhines were in the process of manufacture and fabrica- <br />tion. Contract was awarded in fiscal year 1961 for $8 million for <br />furnishing and installing eight generators in the powerplant. <br /> <br />NAVAJO 'STORAGE UNIT, NEW MEXICO <br /> <br />Progress by the prime contractor for construction of the 405-foot <br />high earth and rock fill dam on the San Juan River in the northwestern <br />part of New Mexico continues well ahead of schedule with physical <br />completion estimated at' 83 percent within 63 percent of the overall <br />time allowed by the contract. To date, approximately 20 million <br />cubic yards of fill material have been placed in the dam. <br />Reservoir clearing operations were in progress in several locations <br />in the reservoir area in both Colorado and New Mexico. ReloCf1tion <br />of Colorado State Highway 151 and 172, the D, & R. G, W. narrow- <br />gage railroad, and sections of Archuleta County roads was nearly <br />completed at fiscal year end, <br /> <br />TRANSMISSION DIVISION <br /> <br />Activities of the trans!nission division during fiscal year 1961 con- <br />sisted primarily of preconstruction work such as completion of field <br />surveys, right-of-way acquisition, and preparation of designs and <br />specifications for the Flaming Gorge to Oak Creek, and Glen Canyon <br />to Curecanti transmission lines, <br />
