co
00
~,
N
c'
"-',
-

Littlefield. Five small distribution systems in Littlefield (and
Lower Beaver Dam Wash) area supply water to farmlands along the north
and south banks of the Virgin River near the town of Littlefield,
Arizona. Two organized systems (Eastside and Westside Irrigation
Companies) provide water for 438 acres and supply water to about 10
water users.

Mesquite. An area of 1,820 acres on the north side of the river
is served by the Mesquite Irrigation Company. Eighty-four stock-
holders own 1,622.5 shares of stock (about one share per acre).

The supply ditch is about 6.6 miles long and delivers about 50
ft3/s of water. Almost all of the ditch was concrete lined in 1967 as
a watershed project measure under Public Law 83-566 and is maintained
solely by the company. Lateral ditches are also company owned, but
are maintained by the individual farmers.

The Mesquite diversion structure on the Virgin River is about
2-1/2 miles east of the Nevada-Arizona state line.

Bunkerville. An area of 874 acres in Nevada is served by the
Bunkerville Irrigation Company. About 1,025 shares of stock, held by
48 shareholders, are outstanding. The company has rights to 39
percent of the riverflow at the site of the existing Bunkerville:
diversion structure.

The suppy ditch is about 5 miles long and delivers about 20 ft3/s
of water. About 2 miles have been concrete 1 ined. The diversion
structure requires extensive repairs after large floodflows.

The 48 shareholders are each responsible for maintenance of about
32 feet of the ditch per share of stock held. They are also respon-
sible for the laterals which serve their individual farms.

g
