8

.\

Grey Mountain !lam and Reservoir

The active capacity of Grey Mountain Reservoir woUld be
200,000 acre-feet and its inactive capacity 20,000 acre-feet.
The.maximum water surface elevation would be 5,626 feet, and
the top of the dead storage wOUld be elevation 5,424 feet. The
surface area of the dead storage poo~ would be 380 acres. The
surface area when the reservoir is full would be 1,800 a.cres.

The dam. would be an earth and rock-fill structure with the
upstream face riprapped. Its height above stream bed would be
about 375 feet, and the crest length would be 1,550 feet. A
concrete-lined chute spillway with a capacity of 90,000 cfs, a
gated inlet, and a stilling basin would originate in a sadd1.e
just left of the left abutment. The outlet works would consist
of a. tunnel, gate chamber, gates, steel pipe and vaJ.ve house and
would have a. oapacity of 4,000 cfs. The tunnel, which is
through the left abutment, would also serve as a diversion tunnel.

.

Irrigation releases to the North Poudre Supply Canal would
be made by modifying ~el No.2, an existing structure leading
eastwa.rd to the plains from the reservoir area. The municipal
waterworks of Fort Collins at an estimated cost of $1,755,000
would be relocated along the south side of the river below the
dam. Existing telephone and REA power lines would be relocated
near the state Highway No. 14 relocation, south of the
reservoir.

Transmission Lines and Substations

The Cache la Poudre Powerplant is to be the center of power
operations. A power line leading to the Cache la Poudre switchyard
from Idy1.wilde switchyard would, therefore, be required. This
115 K.V Idylwilde line would be 22 miles in length. Five ll5 KV
Jines each 13 miles in length would be required from the Cache la
Poudre Powerplant Switchyard to a substation near Fort Collins,
Colorado. From this substation two ll5 KV 1.ines, each having a
length of 31 miles, would be required to tie into the existing
substation at the edge of Greeley, Colorado. Some additions
would be required at the Fort Collins Substation.

Communication Equipment

Idylwilde Powerplant would be operated by remote control
from the Cache la POudre Powerplant. Oarrier current equipment
at both powerplants and a telsmetering circuit wou1.d be used to
start, synchronize and control the generators at Idylwilde
Powerplant.

.
