Maintain and Update MRB Water Accounting System

The water accounting system developed during the MRB Hydrology

Study must be operated and updated to reap any benefit from the development

of the system. Preliminary options for system operation and costs will

be prepared by the Hydrology Study Management Group and presented to the

Association Board of Directors at the February meeting. Operation by

any agency or group will require time and funds.

Another major part of

operation of the system is maintaining, improving, and updating the

large system data base to insure that results from the system are current.

These activities will require time and financial resources on a continual

basis.

Investigate the Feasibility of Developing and Maintaining a Computerized
Geographic Data Base

A water data base for the geographic region of the Missouri River

Basin drainage area will have been completed as part of the Hydrology

scudy. This program would be to investigate the need and feasibility of

developing and maintaining a computerized geographic data base for other

types of data, such as economic, demographic, transportation, natural

resources (other than water), and possibly other information. This data

base would be useful in determining economic and social impacts from

changes in water use as determined with the water resources accounting

system. It would require compilation on a regional basis initially and

then maintenance and update to preserve its usefulness.
