These were distributed by each EPA region involved: 6, 8 and
9. A letter accompanying the Review invited the Tribes to become more active with the
issue of Colorado River salinity. Several Tribes in the Basin are in the process of adopting
water quality standards and it is important to involve them in the salinity control program.

· Determined how NEPA compliance will be carried out under the new EQIP program. At
present, the NRCS plans to issue Environmental Assessments for all projects funded under
EQIP. The EPA will review the list of EAs (in the case. of salinity, the ones within the
Colorado River Basin) to determine if any of the projects have significant environmental
impacts. If this is found by EPA to be the case, EPA will request that an Environmental
Impact Statement be done.

· The EPA continues to review Monitoring and Evaluation reports from the NRCS for its
projects within the Basin.

· The EP A is working through the process of approving the standards adopted by the states
in their triennial reviews, including the adoption of the 1996 Review. At present the states
of Colorado and Wyoming have requested that EP A approve their adoption of the review
and California and Nevada are working through the process of adoption.

4

.,

~.,
. j; )-~
,'".- ."-,,'- - ,'.- .",
---, . .
