No further progress was made in FY 1997 on any planning <br />activities in this potential project area due to the functions of the Colorado River Salinity <br />Control program being combined into EQIP. <br /> <br />Monitoring and Evaluation <br /> <br />Monitoring and evaluation activities continued on a limited basis due to USDA staffmg and <br />funding reductions in the Grand Valley, Uinta Basin. Big Sandy River, Lower Gunnison Basin, <br />and McElmo Creek units. Under this activity, USDA is monitoring the effects of the salinity <br />control program on salt load reductions and wildlife habitat as well as the program's economic <br />impacts . <br /> <br />Concluding Comments <br /> <br />Significant numbers of farmers and ranchers in the existing five project areas continue to inquire <br />about implementing salinity control activities in EQIP through NRCS field offices. <br /> <br />Salinity control activities will continue to be implemented through EQIP in fiscal year 1998. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />'I <br />;;;,:.,i~ <br />
