site #12 - 51.'0 acre established alfalfa field. Water
is delivered by a concrete lined ditch and siphon tubes.
This field was not monitored in 1991 due to equipment not
arriving in time but is slated to be monitored in 1992.

4. The sites with improvements installed will be
easier to monitor. The main improvement is the installation
of a side-roll sprinkler system that can be monitored with
the use of an inline flowmeter with a recording gauge.

site #20 - 28.0 acre established mixed alfalfa-grass
field. Water is delivered by an underground pipeline to a
sideroll sprinkler system. The farmer is using 24 hour sets
and an unique system of irrigating. He irrigates one set
then moves two sets and irrigates again. He is a prime
candidate for IWM.
site #21 - 48.7 acre established alfalfa field. Water
is delivered by an underground pipeline to a sideroll
sprinkler system. The farmer is using 24 hour sets on a
system that was designed for 12 hour sets. The first
irrigation was missed due to timing problems. This farmer
is another candidate for IWM.

5. An Agreement Sheet was developed, for the
Monitoring sites, describing the responsibilities of the
Landowner and the Soil Conservation Service.

6. Three sites (Sites #10, #11, and #12) will be used
to measure baseline data until such time as improvements are
installed. The other two sites (Sites #20 and #21) will be
used to measure data with improvements already installed.
This data will be used to help the IWM Specialist to the
help the farmer with IWM. All sites will correlate findings
with the FURROW & CORRUGATION IRRIGATION PROGRAM and the
Salinity Planning Worksheet.

7. Data will be collected electronically in so far as
possible and processed by the computer and the M&E computer
programs.

8. A full-time technician has been assigned to the M&E
Team to assist with monitoring, site preparation, data
collection, computer entry, and biological monitoring.

~.c"i.3
r,L ~..,
\~ ....
