Alluvial
deposits, widespread throughout El Paso County, are important sources of water
supply. The dissolved-solids concentration of ground water from the Dawson
aquifer in most areas of the county is less than 500 milligrams per liter.
Water from the Dawson aquifer is suitable for most uses although, in small
areas, fluoride and iron concentrations occur in objectionable quantities.
The principal alluvial aquifers are in Fountain Creek, Jimmy Camp Creek, and
upper Black Squirrel Creek basin. The Fountain Creek and Jimmy Camp Creek
alluvial aquifers contain an estimated 100,000 acre-feet of water in storage.
In the upper Black Squirrel Creek basin, the alluvial aquifers contain an
estimated 350,000 acre-feet of water in storage.

',-'-'--'.."._.'

[~~

About 95 percent of El Paso County is drained by tributaries to the
Arkansas River. Major streams in the county are Monument Creek and Fountain
Creek. The water quality of streams in El Paso County is highly variable .with
dissolved-solids concentrations ranging from less than 100 milligrams per
liter in the small mountain streams to greater than 1,000 milligrams per liter
in Jimmy Camp Creek. Selected streams draining Pikes Peak and the Rampart
Range occassionaly contain concentrations of fluoride greater than the
U.S. Public Health standards for drinking water.

~~:~::~:~:f:
:..,.-;,.<-.
~;""--::._.c'-~

iJf-~i;
~~

:'>:\{i.

.~i~f~~i1~

II""",

I
~~~~H~~
~i;;'J~
;ff.~>/:;:;-'
."
