Geological Survey Box 25046, Denver Federal Center Lakewood, Colorado 80225 Telephone: 234-3815 Predictions of ground-water-level declines for the year 2000 in the north- ern part of the High Plains of ColOrado are made in a report released by the U.S. Geological Survey. Declines in the Yuma area are predicted to range from 50 to 85 feet, depending on the extent of new well installa- tions. The report, entitled, "Digital ground-water model of the Ogallala aquifer in parts of Washington and Yuma Counties, northern High Plains of Colorado," by Glenn W. Kapple,. Richard R. Luckey, and Warren E. Hofstra, describes results of a model study of the ground-water reservoir under- lying a 768-square-mile area in Washington and Yuma Counties. The model was constructed and verified using water-level measurements made in the area since 1964. The model may be used to predict the effects, of present and anticipated future development, and it also may be used to evaluate different water-management programs. This area is the fourth area in the High Plains to be modeled as a result of a continuing study by the U.S. Geological Survey made in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board; Colorado Division of Water Resources, Office of the State Engineer; and the High Plains Management Districts. The report has been published as Colorado Water-Resources Circular 34 and is available from the Office of the Director, Colorado Water Conservation Board, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colo. 80203.
