002575

~lood control benefits as a dam closer to Rangely would provide. The
expense of purchase and transport of water 35 or more miles (55 ~) to
the Rangely area would be excessive, The above considerations coupled
with the uncertainty of whether the project will ever be built are the
reasons for eliminating Yellow Jacket as a potential alternative to
Taylor Draw Reservoir.

2.1.1.2.4 The State of Colorado is currently funding another Yellow
Jacket Project feasibility study by International Engineering Company.

2,1.1.3 Other Stream and Off-Basin Developments

2.1.1.3,1 A nurber of water projects have been proposed for the
northwest corner of COlorado, sane of which could furnish water to
beneficiaries of the proposed Taylor Draw Reservoir. Among them are
the White River Pumping Pipeline and Reservoir Project, The Oil Shale
Corporation Project, Powell Park Project, CRWCD Diversion and Storage
Project, Superior all Canpany Diversion and Storage Project, Boies
Project, Rio Blanco all Shale Project, Cow Creek Project, Flat Top
Project, Fourteen Mile Project, Stillwater Project and the Figure Four
Project, all In the White River drainage basin, and the Cross Mountain
Project and the Juniper Project in the Yampa River drainage basin. In
addition, there are a nurber of other future possible diversions which
do not contain water storage provisions in their plans.

2.1.1. 3,2 The Wh i te River projects, except for the Yellow Jacket
Project, the Flat Tops Project, and the CRWCD Diversion and Storage
Project, are either in the Piceance Creek Basin or are concerned with
supplying water primarily for oil shale development. Many of them
will consume most of the water stored and will have very 1 ittle return
flow to the streams, Of the projects named above, the nearest to the
Taylor Draw Dam and Reservoir are the White River Project and The all
Shale Corporation Project, both of which will be using stored waters
for development of oil shale. It is not known if either will have
water available for uses to be served by Taylor Draw Reservoir or if
any or all of the projects 1 isted will ever be constructed.

7

,i.
