The accuracy of the relations are described by residual
analyses and are compared with methods of computation if low-flow mea-
surements can be obtained at the site.

ACKNOWLEDG MENTS

This report has been prepared as part of a cooperative program be-
tween the Kansas Water Resources Board and the U.S. Geological Survey.
It was prepared in the Survey district office in Topeka under the adminis-
trative direction of Edward J. Kennedy, District Engineer. Ivan C. James,
Hydraulic Engineer, assisted in the development of the base-flow formulas.

Dwight F. Metzler, Executive Secretary of the Kansas Water Re-
sources Board until June 30, 1966, and Keith S. Krause, thereafter, with
the assistance of Harold E. Kubik, guided the content of this report toward
the goal of providing information useful to the development of the water
resources of Kansas.

Acknowledgment is made of the helpful advice and criticism of the
Washington staff of the U.S. Geological Survey, particularly H. C. Riggs,
Chief, Hydrologic Studies Section and M. A. Benson, Hydraulic Engineer,
who critically reviewed the technical aspects of this report.

Streamflow records that supplied the foundation for this report were
collected by the U. S. Geological Survey through cooperative programs with
the State of Kansas, the Corps of Engineers of the U.S. Department of the
Army, and the Bureau of Reclamation of the U.S. Department of Interior.
Data computations used in this report were made on the digital computer
at the Computation Center of the University of Kansas through the coopera-
tion of Dr. Frank C. Foley, Director, State Geological Survey, and the
assistance of Charles O. Morgan, U. S. Geological Survey, who had devel-
oped the computer program for plotting values on a map.
