After the BLM has preparec a preliminary <br /> <br />list of wilderness study areas, it will be discussed in public meetings. <br /> <br />The purpose of these meetings will be to review the inventory that <br /> <br />has been completed and determine if any additions of deletions should <br /> <br />be made based solely on criteria given in section 2(c) of the Wilderness <br /> <br />Act. Inability to attend any of these meetings should not prevent anyone <br /> <br />from offering comment or opinion. Public comment, either written or <br /> <br />verbal, is encouraged at all times. Maps and narratives will be available <br /> <br />for public review at the meeting, including: (1) road inventory and trans- <br /> <br />portation plan, (2) map showing road less areas in relation to the rest of <br /> <br />the inventory area, (3) map showing residual wilderness study areas with <br /> <br />" <br />, <br /> <br />narrative of the wilderness characteristics or situation found that quali- <br /> <br />fied or disqualified areas, and (4) map showing the entire area inventoried. <br /> <br />d. Wilderness Study Area List. Ut~lizing the above procedures, <br /> <br />following the public comment period, the wilderness inventory will be <br /> <br />,. <br /> <br />finalized. State Directors will approve the final wilderness study area <br /> <br />inventory for their respective States. Once an area has been finally <br /> <br />listed as a wilderness study area, it will be carried forward through <br /> <br />the wilderness study area evaluation process and reported to the President. <br /> <br />A list, referenced to a map, showing name and acres involved, will be <br /> <br />published for public distribution and information. The published list <br /> <br />will be kept current with the status of the inventory and congressional <br /> <br />action on wilderness reports. The list and map will be maintained on <br /> <br />a Statewide basis, including any interstate or interagency wilderness <br /> <br />study area. <br /> <br />23 <br />
