Comment: There is, however, no adequate information about the
other areas involved in the project. A cultural survey of the Grand
Valley is necessary. Other areas, such as the Glenwood-Dotsero
Springs Unit, the desalt plant and pond east of New Castle, and the
Lower Gunnison Basin Unit also need cultural surveys of both histor-
ical and archeological resources. When we have received the infor-
mation needed from these areaS, we will be able to assess the impacts
of your project upon our cultural resources.

Reply: A cultural survey has just been completed for the Grand Valley
Unit by the Historical Museum and Institute of Western Colorado. This
stlrvey is presented in a report entitled "Cultural Survey for the Colo-
rado River Salinity Control Project, Grand Valley Unit, June IS, 1976."
The report, however, was too late to have its results entered in the
programmatic draft statement. We will include the information in the
individual impact statement or assessment for the Grand Valley Unit
when the statement or assessment is prepared. We also anticipate
contacting Mr. James Kyle to obtain additional information from him.
Prior to writing the individual Environmental Impact Statement or
Assessment for each unit of the Water Quality Improvement Program,
additional surveys will be made for that unit and be included in the
individual statements. The Glenwood-Dotsero Springs and Gunnison
Basin Units that you mention will be considered in such manner.

153
